Korean Experts Visit BARD to Discuss KOICA-Funded Project

A delegation of esteemed Korean experts visited the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) to engage in discussions about a new project funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). This collaborative initiative aims to foster sustainable development in rural areas and strengthen the ties between BARD and KOICA.

The visiting Korean experts team led by Prof. Donghwan An whereas KOICA team led by Mr. Junsu Kim, Deputy Country Director, KOICA Bangladesh office were welcomed by senior faculty members at BARD, who emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing rural development challenges. The discussions revolved around the project’s objectives, implementation strategies, and expected outcomes, ensuring alignment with the development priorities of Bangladesh.

The KOICA-funded proposed project “Strengthening the Capacity to Carry out Sustainable Rural Development” is designed to enhance capacity-building, introduce innovative practices, and promote inclusive growth in rural communities. This project is blended of Saemaul Undong plus and Comilla model of rural development. It will focus on areas such as agriculture, education, technology transfer, and women’s empowerment, aiming to create a long-lasting impact on the socio-economic fabric of the region.

Mr. Saif Uddin Ahmed, Director General (Additional Secretary) of BARD, stated, “We are thrilled to host the distinguished team from Korea and embark on this meaningful collaboration. The KOICA-funded project represents a significant step forward in our journey to uplift rural communities and ensure sustainable growth.”

During the meeting, the Korean delegation shared insights and best practices from Korea’s own rural development experiences, highlighting approaches that could be adapted to the Bangladeshi context. BARD officials expressed their commitment to leveraging this partnership to address critical issues and achieve shared development goals.

The Korean experts also toured BARD’s facilities, including its training venues and action research project areas, to gain a comprehensive understanding of its capabilities. This visit marks the beginning of a promising partnership, paving the way for transformative initiatives in rural development.

The KOICA-funded project reflects the shared vision of Bangladesh and Korea for inclusive and sustainable progress. Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to working together to create lasting benefits for the people of Bangladesh.
